Romuald Schmidt
Expert in the Field of Sports for People with Disabilities
An expert in disability sports, holding a Master’s degree in Tourism and Recreation and a graduate of the University of Physical Education in Poznań. He has been involved with the Paralympic movement in Poland and internationally for decades.
Currently, he serves as Secretary General of the Polish Paralympic Committee and Vice President of the Polish Sports Association for the Disabled “Start.” He is also President of the “Start” Sports and Rehabilitation Association in Poznań and Vice President of the Polish Boccia Federation. Internationally, he represents Poland as a member of the Board of the Boccia International Sports Federation (BISFed).
Romuald Schmidt has participated in ten Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. He led the Polish Paralympic Mission as Chef de Mission at the Games in Tokyo (2021), Beijing (2022), and Paris (2024), overseeing the organization, coordination, and support of the entire national team.
As a pioneer of Paralympic sport in Poland, he played a crucial role in introducing disciplines such as boccia, paracanoe, and alpine mono-skiing into the national training and competition system.
Between 2015 and 2025, he co-developed seven projects under the Erasmus+ Sport program, aimed at promoting, integrating, and developing physical activity among people with disabilities.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of sport, he was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit in 2020.
