Tomasz Koźmiński
Founder and President of the For Heroes Foundation
An advocate for accessible sports, founder, and president of the Kraków-based For Heroes Foundation, which supports the development of sports for people with disabilities. Blind since the age of 16, he has been passionately promoting the idea of barrier-free sports for many years.
Coming from a sports-oriented family — his father was a basketball coach and sports club president, his mother a swimming coach, and his brother a member of Poland’s national football team — he has maintained a strong connection to athletics. Although health issues prevented him from pursuing professional sports himself, he is a certified diver and the first blind person in Poland to obtain an HSA (Handicapped Scuba Association) license.
Through the For Heroes Foundation, he organizes training sessions in disciplines such as wheelchair basketball, blind tennis, and laser shooting for people with visual impairments. Beneficiaries of the Foundation compete in Poland’s First and Second Wheelchair Basketball Leagues.
Together with his team, Tomasz also conducts accessibility audits of sports facilities — from the practical perspective of athletes with disabilities.
For years, he has been committed to changing perceptions of sport as an open and inclusive space for all. He supports clubs, local governments, and facility managers, promoting sport as a shared experience — free from barriers and divisions.
